Yoga to Shore Walking
February 23, 2015
Jane fetched me for yoga at 8 a.m. Brushing my teeth when I heard her knock, I was totally taken unawares. Yes, we had discussed it but I had forgotten today was Monday. I was about to step out for morning coffee down the way. It's at her golf club and I'm so glad she shared the space. Closeby and it provides another breakfast dining opportunity. Plus the cookies are made there! Homemade, not frozen. Jane went on to tell me where the best brownies are as well. I've found one spot, but they're often too dry. I don't want the calories unless they are moist - I'm a center of the brownie pan kind of girl.

Yoga was perfect. An excellent instructor and quiet, kind class of people. I'll go each Monday and Wednesday for the remainder of my stay. Once home, a hike to the dunes west of me was in order. Maybe 2 miles? Today was a great hike as it's warm enough to enjoy walking in the waves. As yesterday I met a woman in the smashingest shape yet - we talked of throwing medicine balls on the beach and taking the beach stairs two at a time as a lunge...then I met a friend's daughter with an 8 pack! No lie. They were at the pool, she in her bikini - and an 8 pack. I've never seen one so white. Maybe my son when he was born; I referred to him as my mayonnaise boy for a long while. Thus inspired, or humiliated that my abs are protected by more padding than necessary, I'm lunging up the stairs 10 times a day for the rest of my stay. Logic tells me creating muscle in the glutes and hams MIGHT bleed off a little fat in other areas. And I've got that medicine ball for crunches and tossing up in the air to myself.

Bees were on the beach. I spent some time at bee rescue as they get their wings wet and then are stuck when the tide comes in. I'm unaware of the phenomenon, maybe they are suicidal? One made it to the dry sand due to my bee tossing.

After bee rescue, I stalked sand pipers. Observing them is a kick. Last year I learned that they eat the worms or shells or whatever makes the bubble holes that are left behind when the waves break back. Today I watched the hunching...hackling behavior as they protect their territory. If timid, they sit rather than confront. Passive resistance. It was hilarious to watch them get all stompy and fluffed up then back down and crouch.

Finally, family wading! It's that warm today. It's the second time I've walked in the water. This family seemed to enjoy it as they kept walking farther and farther out.

Hoping for dolphins later on. If they come in and they are close enough I'll post a pic.

Be safe on the snow and ice. I'm truly Jonesin' for a ski slope with all the powder that's been falling in Summit County, CO. Cruised VRBO for a small place between March 15 and Aprill 8 but the area may well be booked for spring break.
