I SEE YOU
February 24, 2015
Glory! As I was walking the beach and overjoyed with the multitude of shell mosaics that I perused, yes, it was a timeless journey, two singers accompanied me, Paul McCartney sang, "there are places I remember some are gone now and some remain...in my life I've loved you all..." it came to me as I recalled my time on Nevis Island well before the influx of tourists the Four Seasons and cruise ships have delivered. At that time only two beaches were tourist ready, Cheryl, Brian, Daniel and I chose the beaches less traveled. One we named shell beach, covered in conks and shells, knee sometimes thigh deep. As I walked through the micro deposits this morning I thought of that glorious time.

Without my camera today, John Meyer began serenading me, "you'll be with me next time....no more 3 x 5 ... today I saw with both my eyes..." Of course John would recall the words in order but if you know the song you get the gist.

And on this walked I summed up the Oscar show for 'my own self' -- my friend used that phrase once and I LOVE IT! The acceptance speeches were human, we are flawed, we have suffered, we have pondered the why of mistreatment, the why of intolerance because we are different, weird. We have pushed on though unrecognized, unappreciated. We have thrived!!

Glory, brilliant song, lyrics of heart, recognition, acknowledgement, hope and a shout-out to all of you who stand up and continue to be, fight on to become. Glory, this performance, this timeless anthem for all who know the dark night of the soul. We are human. Most of us have known torment, inconsiderateness, misunderstanding and a life apart. Women, African Americans, Mexican Americans, Gays, Foreign born, those who were unpopular because they chose band, or chorus, or physics or drama, or the smoking section... So few of us were selected the Prom King or Queen, and even they have known nights of 'who am I and where do I fit and why doesn't anyone get me and who dropped me into this family/this school/this town/this life?'

I SEE YOU is a book that was gifted to me from the universe (along with my experiences & education) last summer while I was working with a brilliant photographer to organize and make selections from my decades of photography. A page of I SEE YOU is here for you. The book's purpose is to talk about emotions, talk about what we see when we look at a face, open this conversation person to person, mother to child, caregiver to one with Alzheimer's. Faces of sea life can be unusual, unique and challenging to decipher. You are invited to begin the conversation with this page.

I SEE YOU is a gift to all humans.
