9/11 Memorial
August 1, 2012
Wow. This journey began several weeks ago when we had to reserve a spot and time to see the memorial. This has to be done as part of the security checking process. As one might expect when we got there the entrance was extremely similar to the go through at the air port. Stripped down and scanned. The place was packed with people. Right off the bat David and I could tell exactly who was American and who was not here. The one's like ourselves who remember that day were solemn and absolutely awe stricken by everything. I was holding back tears at times. Others were not so respectful. Something about a group of Asian tourists standing outside the pools smiling and giving peace signs for pictures just wasn't appropriate. So many tourists found there way here and didn't quite grasp it. Probably because they didn't live it like the rest of us did. But boy was the memorial done well. The water pouring right down the sides was identical the stripes that were found on the towers. And the way it fell was identical to what the towers looked like when they fell. There were signs everywhere reminding that the place was for quiet reflection. And another one of the things that was done so perfect was the sound of the water falls. It was so loud but so peaceful at the same time that you couldn't hear the people conversation next to you. It was perfect and I truly feel it does well for the remembrance of the victims. It was still very much a work in progress but it is well on it's way. We did our best to walk every inch of both pools. I honestly wish I could have read every name on each one because I feel they deserve it. There was just so many. I would love to go see it again when the museum is finished and the new tower is complete.
