My experiments with light and long exposures
April 14, 2012
I think these were all taken with my old Canon Powershot S2. For a non-SLR, it was remarkably versatile. Some of the shots have seen the light of day in other albums and some have been collecting dust, waiting for reappraisal. None of these shots have been tweaked, barring a bit of cropping. They are just long exposures and the use of lights. Good old fashioned effects. Looking back at these shots I can glean two things:
1) That I remember the excitement of discovering the possibilities of a new camera - and these images remind me more than any others how much I miss taking photos since my canon died and my nikon was stolen.
2) That the intense boredom induced during lengthy episodes at sea (the wierd head and 'body light' shots were taken whilst on a 7 week stint at sea without landfall) seems to have generated rich fodder for my imagination.
I'm quite proud of some of the shots playing with flashlights and long exposures as those shots were taken in '07 and this kind of thing has subsequently become quite popular.
