Every now and again, you experience an almost perfect day in your life where every second of it is savored and remembered for days to come. I had that day two weeks ago in New York City where it seemed that the stars aligned and everything I wanted to happen actually did: I saw the most amazing play, I was inspired to draw after seeing a beautiful piece of artwork, my lunch was delicious, I found the exact books that I wanted in the Strand bookstore and I spent some memorable moments with friends.
I began my day at the Neue Gallery and I was blown away by the beauty of some of the Schiele pen and ink drawings as well as these fabulous posters.

Lunch at the Neue is always a must and I decided to visit Cafe Fledermaus instead of the usually Cafe Sabarsky upstairs. As always, it reminds me of my childhood visiting Austria and I just love the fact that all of the waitstaff can speak German as well as English.

As well as going to the Strand, I stopped at M and J trimmings in the fashion district and marveled at the beauty of all these ribbons and I found this special glue that I been wanting to get for ages!

The highlight of my day was seeing this a British play called 'The Pride.' I have always tended to gravitate towards the aesthetics of visual art, cinema and dance so going to the theatre is somewhat out of my comfort zone in many ways. I knew however that this play was going to be powerful and that the acting would be extraordinary so I had to see it. I have to say that I enjoyed every moment and afterwards I reflected on how compelling it can be to witness a piece of art that is constantly changing and never quite the same each night it is performed. When thanking the playwright and the actors afterwards for their performances, I thought, how often can one thank a visual artist or a film director in person for creating something that has moved you in some way?  It was an honor that I won't forget.
Before seeing the play, an article in the NYT, which mentioned the writings of Edward Carpenter as a source of inspiration for the play. Before I left to go home, I stopped by the Strand one more time and was so excited to find a lovely hardback copy of one of his books. Another example of how art can inspire one to seek out new things and find enrichment outside of your usual sphere of thought.
