Ooh La Lanta
January 25, 2012
Took an early ferry from Phuket to Ko Lanta. Arrived at the dock just in time to enjoy an extraordinary sunrise. Then to a less extraordinary 7-eleven for breakfast and a rather run down ferry. But it did the job, with a quick stop at Phi Phi Island (pronounced pee-pee, it makes me laugh!) before dropping us at Lanta 2 hours later.

Many of the islands in this area of the Andaman Sea are incredibly sculptural, with large karst formations rising out of the water. Lanta is a bit different, it's quite flat and has extensive beaches along the western shore. It's around 30 km long and supposed to be fun explored by motorcycle. That may be on the agenda later this week.

We are staying at the Crown Lanta, a pretty swanky resort up at the north end of Hat Klong Dao. Is up on a cliff, which has steps down to a small reef and rock outcropping on one side with views across to to Phi-Phi. The hotel has really nice rooms with balconies around the size of my apartment (perfect for morning yoga practice) and super long infinity pools that run the entire length of the hotel wing, for my lap swims.

Spent yesterday poolside and then took Inna on her first tuk-tuk ride to dinner further down the beach. They are a bit different than the ones I've been on India, the seats are on carts that ride like a side-car to the motor bike. We had a pimped out disco tuk-tuk with rainbow lights for extra entertainment.

Today we hung out beachside, and walked the entire 3km length of Klong Dao. The water was even warmer than up by Nai Yang. We discovered these bizarre sand formations that looked like fireworks at low tide.. Turns out they were made by the burrowing sand crabs. Later in the afternoon got my massage fix directly on the beach today. It had been 3 days so I was jonesing for a Thai Massage pretty badly. I think I am going to have to visit again tomorrow. They didn't give you the typical pants and shirt like they do at indoor places, rather cover up the area that is being worked on with a sarong. I would have taken pics but I was too busy being blissed out.
