Day 1 - Our arrival in Crete last Friday was something of a mystery tour. We'd booked a self-catering apartment 'directly on the beach' somewhere in Crete, near Heraklion.. but that was pretty much all we knew about where we were going. With some trepidation we made our way, in the dead of night, in the large tour bus as it trundled along narrow roads, dropping off passengers hither and thither at their various destinations. Eventually we came to the place with welcoming Tavernas and bars, and then a sign saying 'Semele apartments', one of which was to be our humble abode for a week. A sign saying 'Please wash the sand off your feet before you enter' confirmed we were indeed directly on the beach. :-) Yay!
