Iron Pour on Halloween
October 31, 2008
There are a ton of old brick warehouses in Providence, near the railroad tracks: someone had a brilliant idea of making one of these warehouses into an art space dedicated to metal works. It's called The Steelyard and every Halloween they do something called the 'Iron Pour' where in front of a bunch of beer drinking RISD students (rhode islands art crowd) and other folk, they heat iron to 3000 degrees and pour it out.....and we all watch things burn. Very basic really... you just watch fire and a spectacled dude plays some eerie tunes in his sound system. It was awesome! There also was a trebuchet where they flung pumpkins around. Simple yet highly entertaining.
